The Center for Research on the Changing Earth System (CRCES)

CRCES is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization located between Washington, DC, and Baltimore in leafy, quiet, yet cosmopolitan Columbia, Maryland. Information about CRCES is available at http://www.crces.org. CRCES invites applications for the following positions:
  1. Research associate to participate in a project on assessment of long- term, in situ and remotely-sensed, ocean and climate observations. The emphasis in this project is on quantifying error characteristics of current data products and developing requirements for future data products and observing systems. Background requirements include a Ph.D. degree or an M.S. degree with at least five years relevant experience in Meteorology/Physical Oceanography/closely-related field, and some experience with statistical analysis techniques.

  2. Research associate to participate in a project on global and regional water cycles. The emphasis in this project is on quantifying interactions between decade-to-century scale variability and change in Earth System components, and global and regional water cycles as simulated by state-of-the-art, global coupled Earth System models and intermediate models. Background requirements include a Ph.D. degree or an M.S. degree with at least five years relevant experience in Meteorology/Physical Oceanography/Hydrology/closely-related field, and some experience with coupled Earth System models and statistical analysis techniques.
Some experience of using Unix/Linux-operated workstations and data servers, and graphics software such as GrADS and IDL is essential. Appointments in these positions will begin on or about 15 February 2005. Starting salary and fringe benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. These positions will remain open until filled; however, to ensure full consideration, please send a curriculum vita, a statement of research interests, and names of three references before 15 November 2004 to:
