The purpose of this quarterly newsletter is to communicate news and views in a timely manner within the decadal climate variability and applications communities. In this spirit, this issue we begin a series of articles and commentaries regarding different aspects of decadal variability research. The first of these will be an overview of the CRCES-IPRC Workshop on Decadal Climate Variability. Future installments will focus on different aspects of the community.
