Editor's Note Welcome to Subtle Signals. While not the first issue of Subtle Signals, this is the first issue that is not only archived at its usual place on DecVar (DecVar.org), but is also mailed in a digest format to all DecVar members. For this issue only, Subtle Signals is also being forwarded to the DecVar Community mailing list. If you are not a DecVar member and wish to continue to receive quarterly issues of Subtle Signals containing updates on new developments in decadal variability, please go to DecVar.org and click on the "Become a Member" link to join. When you join, you will not only continue to receive this quarterly newsletter, but will also have access to all of the communication and research tools that DecVar has to offer. This newsletter is only as good as the information that it contains. That being said, we welcome and encourage submissions from readers in order to improve the quality of DecVar and future issues of Subtle Signals. We will accept upcoming workshops and conferences, abstracts of recently submitted papers, citations of recently published papers and any other kind of information of interest to Decadal Variability researchers.
